I’m a physio… I should know better
I’m a physio.. I should know better
I had an awful migraine over the weekend. I treat patients all the time with neck and jaw tension, headaches and migraines, but whenever I get deep in the vortex of one myself, I’m reminded just how damn frustrating pain can be.
And you know what? It’s not actually the pain. It’s the things you can’t do (or can’t do properly) because of the pain.
I really value my weekends with my family because I work so much during the week seeing patients and running Next-Gen. And this weekend I just couldn’t be properly present. I couldn’t concentrate. I was moody. I struggled to be in the moment with the girls. I just couldn’t get my fucking shit together. And that was the part that bothered me.
Then Danielle gave me a head and neck massage *cue the collective eye roll because, yes, she is 30 weeks pregnant (HAHA)*In my defence, she begged me. I said no multiple times before eventually my guilt was overcome by how much I needed it.
I followed that up with some treatment from Adam, our massage therapist, today. I also held off on screen time and – you got it – did some exercises that I know really help me.
And I’m lying there with Adam thinking:Why did I wait to get this done?
I know I feel better when I see him once a month and do my little neck routine. I know it helps. Yet somehow I couldn’t organise my life enough to actually book it.
The man literally works in Room 1.I work in Room 5.So yep. Not exactly a logistical nightmare!
Maybe that’s my reminder from this weekend. We’re all very good at putting up with things until they start properly getting in the way. And sometimes even physios need reminding not to do that.
