Read this is you have Plantar Fasciitis!

Read this if you have plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is ridiculously common (around 1 in 10 people will get it during their lifetime and it often lingers on!) .. and because it’s so common, everyone has an opinion on how to fix it.

Frozen water bottles. Orthotics. Spiky balls. Massage. Stretching. Ice. Heat. Never walking barefoot. Shockwave. Cortisone. The list goes on.The Facebook post at the top of this had 129 comments … and just about every possible remedy was suggested :joy:.

The problem? Plantar fasciitis usually isn’t something you can just rub, roll or stretch away.

One of the most important parts of rehab is progressively loading and strengthening the foot and calf. That’s why we use exercises like heavy calf raises and tools like our Fasciitis Fighter to specifically load the plantar fascia.

But we also need to look beyond the foot – calf strength, hips and legs, walking/running loads and recent changes in activity can all matter. And don’t underestimate footwear. The right shoe or extra support can make a massive difference while we build the foot’s capacity back up.

Massage, rolling and stretching can absolutely help it feel better. But feeling better temporarily and actually building the capacity to stay better are two different things.

If your plantar fasciitis is driving you insane, come see us. We’ll work out what your foot actually needs rather than giving you remedy number 130. :joy:

P.S. This one was a bit more physio-specific than my usual rambling. Let me know if you like these types of blogs and I’ll do some more conditions!
