This is completely new for me!

THIS IS COMPLETELY NEW FOR ME:

We started advertising for a new physio this week (always very exciting), and invariably the first question patients and people ask me is… “who’s leaving!?” Don’t worry guys, nobody! All of our physios are staying put.

Kelsey is heading off on maternity leave from January 2027, which is bloody exciting for her and her family.

It actually got me thinking though. With all the babies that have been born to Next-Gen staff over the past few years, we’ve never actually had one of our female physios have a baby and take 12 months off. So this is completely new territory for us!

I’ve gone back and forth a LOT about whether we should hire another physio. Obviously, I 110% want Kelsey to come back and she will be. She’s amazing, we love her and she’s such an important part of our team. But if we hire another physio permanently suddenly there are six of us when Kels returns!

For our clinic, that feels like a lot!

But where I’ve eventually landed is pretty simple: the clinic can’t really cope with four physios anymore.

We’re too busy. When someone is sick, away or takes leave, the pressure on everyone else ramps up really quickly. And I don’t want our team (and me!) to be off their heads busy just to keep up.

A few people have asked me:
“Why don’t you just hire a locum or someone for maternity leave cover?”
… I don’t really want to hire someone I love, invest in them, introduce them to our patients, have them become part of our team and our culture… all while knowing from day one that they’re probably going to leave. If we find the right person, I want them to stay.

I want another physio who genuinely wants to become part of Next-Gen for the long term.

Anyway, we’re officially looking for the right person!
