Why Tom has decided to start writing again

Why Tom is writing again…

Like a lot of people I have been thinking about AI (artificial intelligence) a lot lately. Probably too much! We are all using it to varying degrees and whilst there are some amazing positives, there are obviously some weird and concerning long term issues (are we going to be taken over by robots and become obselete? eeeee).

Anyway, let’s not go down that rabbit hole! Something that I guess is a little bit more of a short term trend Im seeing is businesses, including small businesses, using AI to produce text or blurbs for their social media posts, marketing, emails etc. I feel like I can tell when I read something that is hasn’t been written by a human being .. or at the very least has been heavily edited by AI. No judgement here, we do it at Next-Gen Physio!

In light of this though, I WANT to hear from humans. I love the weird and wonderful creatures that we all are and I like to see those genuine written words. It’s still special right?

As a result of this (and my strong affinity for writing) I have decided I am going to write a long form blog-post style of content once a week. It’s not me trying to be anti-AI or anything, it’s me saying .. “Hey this is what I want to see from other small business owners, so I should do it!”.

The general format of this is going to be something physio-related, something life related and I dare say there will be some random waffling about topics I’m finding interesting throughout that week.

My love language is “words of affirmation” so if you enjoy this sort of stuff from me – let me know! It means I’ll keep doing it (haha).

Given I’ve taken up a huge chunk of your attention introducing why I’m doing this I’ll stick to one thing for today, more so a question for you out there regarding pain.

… If you are suffering chronic/long-term pain (and it doesn’t matter what part of your body) how do you think you would feel if you could reduce your stress levels by 10-20%? Would this help your pain? I love this question but as physios, we don’t ask it enough!! We are rightly so focused on diagnosing our patients problem, giving them the best possible exercises and providing some pain relieving treatment.

It has to be relevant though. We must consider and discuss this with our patients. If you are reading this and answered yes to both of the above questions then the follow up has to be – what can I do to reduce my stress levels? Ughhh what an insurmountable and kinda stupid question! The list of options is endless! And Tom, if I could – I would!

BUT a better focus point could be, what is one thing I can do today, that I rarely (or never) do that takes 5 minutes that I know for sure would add some tiny bit of happiness to my life. Removing stressful things is harder, but for me adding something that creates a bit of joy, thats where some magic can happen!

My one thing – I take a 5 minute walk on my lunch break and not doom scroll on my phone. Easy! Literally 5 minutes of my day that creates some happiness and in theory can reduce my stress. The physio related upshot .. reducing stress will help with my pain (my neck is cooked – I’ll cover this another day though!). I love being outside, breathing fresh air and seeing a few trees on the Raspberry Gully track near the clinic.

Now I want to hear from you! If you don’t want to get this type of emails, I won’t be offended.. you can unsubscribe anytime. However, if this resonated with you or you liked it – please let me know! My phone number is 0410500408

P.S. The the temptation to put this through ChatGPT to proof-read it for me was strong! I didn’t though so you can safely know that this was written completely by me!
